Heartbreak often precipitates creativity — and lost love is the driving force behind Pegi Young’s fifth album, Raw, due out in February. Recorded with her band, The Survivors, the set follows a devastating blow to the 64-year-old’s personal life: Her separation from husband Neil after 36 years of marriage. “Having gone through a painful divorce, I sought solace in writing,” Young tells EW by email.
She also mixed in timely covers, including a version of “Trying to Live My Life Without You,” the breakup anthem popularized by soul singer Otis Clay and rocker Bob Seger. Young says that after someone suggested the song to her, she listened to the versions by Clay and Seger and immediately decided to make it her own. Read the rest on Entertainment Weekly
