The death of a loved one and divorce always rank at or near the top of the greatest stressers someone can experience, and singer-songwriter Pegi Young had both on her plate as she stepped to the stage Friday to showcase songs from her new album, "Lonely in a Crowded Room."

AllMusic Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Though Pegi Young began her musical career as a backing vocalist in Neil Young's band in 2000, it wasn't until 2006 that she began making her own records, showcasing simply constructed yet well-crafted songs that ranged through country, folk, rock, and retro R&B.

'Lonely in a Crowded Room,' Pegi Young & The Survivors (New West), 4 stars out of 5
Pegi Young began her music career as a backup singer for then husband Neil Young -- yes, THAT Neil Young -- but eventually emerged as a solo performer with the release of her self-titled debut in 2007. Since then, the 61-year-old Young has gone on to record three more platters -- including terrific latest offering "Lonely in a Crowded Room."

Previously a back up singer only, Young has proven herself well versed in country, jazz, folk and blues while getting really close to R&B, too. On her fourth album her deep vocals align well with an extremely proficient backing band, yielding both honky tonk rockers and slow burning, soulful moments that sound so distinct it makes it hard to separate the originals from the covers. So good, you don't even need to name drop her husband...

On Thursday, November 6th, I lost one of the dearest friends I had. An original Survivor, RTBP gave me love and encouragement and support as I progressed from a shy and timid singer and songwriter on our first record right through to the making of our last record, Lonely In A Crowed Room, which he loved and was very proud of. He was a brother to me as I was a sister to him. Knowing he was always there on stage at my right shoulder gave me great comfort and support. He was always there for me through thick and thin and never let me down.
